Every year over 16 million Canadians take part in recreational boating. In Ontario alone, 35 people drowned due to boating accidents in 2013. 88% of these individuals were not wearing a personal floatation device, and 40% of the accidents were related to alcohol consumption. The CSBC would like to remind boaters at the start of their season to follow safe boating practices; wear a life jacket and leave alcohol until they return to the dock.
